Personal Statement
Prior to my employment at NIU, all my education (associates degree) and employment had been in the medical secretary field. When I interviewed for the position of secretary for the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, I knew nothing about Southeast Asia. Luckily, that wasn't a requirement for the position, and I was offered the job. When I accepted, it was my goal to pass my six month probation and then transfer to another department on campus. I was hoping that by then there would be an opening with the School of Nursing or the Student Health Service. I had no intention of staying with the Center. Well, my first day on the job was August 17,1977 and I'm still here! Obviously, my plans changed. I fell in love with the students I met, the staff I worked with, the faculty I interacted with and the variety of work that the job entailed. And to this day, almost 20 years later, I'm still in love!
Current
Research Projects, Grants and Interests
My current research involves how to cram 24 hours worth of work into a 7.5 hour work day. Away from the office I love watching movies, going to the theater, watching sports and reading.
