This special issue of Crossroads, guest edited by Gerald Sullivan, features six peer-reviewed articles: a centerpiece essay by Robert Wessing, “A Community of Spirits: People, Ancestors and Nature Spirits in Java,” five companion commentaries by Bart Barendregt, F.K. Lehman (F.K.L. Chit Hlaing), Richard A. O’Connor, Gerald Sullivan, and Nicola Tannenbaum, followed by a response by Wessing.
