   Published Reviews   Available for Review
Guidelines   Template

Here are some basic guidelines for book reviewers. Please note that reviews that have been or will be published elsewhere will not accepted for publication in Crossroads. The editors reserve the right to edit all book reviews received. By observing the guidelines below you can avoid requests for revision.

1. Word Length
2. Header Format
3. Basic Format
4. Basic Organization
5. Spelling and Punctuation
6. Submission

Word Length

700-750 words

Header Format

Author name. Full Title in italic. Place: Publisher, Year. Page number, price, binding, ISBN number. If price details are not available (check inside front cover and title page), Crossroads will take responsibility for supplying this information.

Basic Format

Please single-space the title information and double-space the review. Use a single font, unless a non-Roman font is required. Your name and institutional affiliation should appear at the bottom of the last page of the review.

Basic Organization

Please consider the audience for the book review to be scholars who are interested in a summary of the book's content and an evaluation of its strengths and weaknesses. A good book review serves readers by outlining the book's aim, scope, and main points while assessing its importance to relevant fields of study. When reviewing an edited volume, you may evaluate selected essays separately, but the bulk of the review should assess the book as a whole. For more details on organization, especially for first-time reviewers, please see our Suggested Template.

Spelling and Punctuation

While Crossroads is published in using U.S. standards based on the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, we will accept book reviews using any accepted English standard. However, use of a spell-checker is strongly recommended.

Submission

Please email your completed, spell-checked review to the Book Review Editor as an electronic attachment in Word.
